This privacy notice explains how Fertio collects, uses, and discloses information about you as part of your search for egg matching.

Processing Activities

Initial Sign-Up Through Email, Phone, or Online

  • Data Collected: Name, Date of birth, Contact details
  • Purpose: To register you in our system, contact you regarding matching, clinic referrals, and other relevant information.
  • Legal Basis: GDPR Article 6(1)(a) – Consent provided at sign-up.
  • Storage Period: If no match is made within 2 years, your registration will be fully anonymised.

Additional Information Voluntarily Provided by You

  • Data Collected: Family constellation, preferred treatment country, preferred treatment clinic, ID of your Partner, Phenotype
  • Purpose: To guide you to the optimal match and provide information about treatment options available for your specific situation.
  • Legal Basis: GDPR Article 6(1)(f) – Legitimate interest in improving matching based on voluntarily provided data.
  • Storage Period: If no match is made within 2 years, your registration will be fully anonymised.

Medical Information

  • Data Collected: Infertility reason, Genetic carrier status
  • Purpose: To find a suitable match from a medical point of view and assist in finding a clinic that can treat your specific medical case.
  • Legal Basis: GDPR Article 6(1)(a) – Consent; GDPR Article 9(2)(a) – Explicit consent for processing sensitive medical data.
  • Storage Period: If no match is made within 2 years, your registration will be fully anonymised.

Photo Matching

  • Data Collected: Photo of your face
  • Purpose: To find a match with similar facial features, either digitally or manually by a staff member.
  • Legal Basis: GDPR Article 6(1)(f) – Legitimate interest in assisting with the matching process based on the individual's voluntary request.
  • Storage Period: The photo will be deleted after the result has been communicated to you.

Matching with a Donor

  • Data Collected: Your full identity, Chosen donor, Chosen Treatment Clinic, Payment information
  • Purpose: To send a referral to your clinic to start planning your treatment and send invoices.
  • Legal Basis: GDPR Article 6(1)(b) – Necessary for the performance of a contract you have entered into.
  • Storage Period: After matching and payment, retention for at least 5 years as per accounting laws.

Referral to a Treatment Clinic

  • Data Collected: Your full identity, Contact details, Chosen donor
  • Purpose: To share your details with the clinic for medical assessment and allocation of donated oocytes for your treatment.
  • Legal Basis: GDPR Article 6(1)(b) – Necessary for the performance of a contract you have entered into.
  • Storage Period: All data related to the match and referral must be retained for at least 30 years due to legal obligations for traceability both by us and the treatment clinic.

Treatment Outcome

  • Data Collected: Treatment data
  • Purpose: To receive data from the clinic about the outcome of your treatment.
  • Legal Basis: GDPR Article 6(1)(c) – Necessary for compliance with a legal obligation.
  • Storage Period: All data related to the match and referral must be retained for at least 30 years due to legal obligations for traceability both by us and the treatment clinic.

Please note, due to the nature of our matching services, different legal bases may apply, including compliance with national authority requirements. For example, information about you, your match, and your treatment will be stored for traceability purposes, irrespective of consent withdrawal.
  • Right to Lodge a Complaint: If you believe your data rights have been infringed, you may lodge a complaint with us or a Data Protection Authority.
