At Fertio, we aim to positively impact the world through responsible and sustainable practices. Our commitment extends to everyone involved - donors, families, donor-conceived individuals, employees, and partners. Our efforts are concentrated in four key areas:
We genuinely care about the future of everyone involved — the donor children, the donors and the parents.
We provide a range of resources aimed at supporting both parents and donor-conceived children, from fertility consultations to comprehensive donor profiles and personalised children's books. We call it our family support programme.
We also make it a priority to continue learning about issues that affect the donor-conceived community and the health of the children. We conduct surveys and organise stakeholder dialogue and events.
For example, we are exploring how we can support the wish of many donor-conceived individuals and families to connect with other families or genetic relatives.
We use our voice and our different channels to address the taboo of donation. By supporting different initiatives or sharing stories of diverse families and their journeys across countries, we help transform perceptions and break down taboos.
We also challenge policymakers to do better when we experience that the law puts our donors, the children, or families in unreasonable or unfortunate situations. We do that, for example, by advocating for policy changes on an EU and national level to improve and harmonise legislation across countries.
Each child born with help from Fertio leads to one new tree through the CommuniTree project.
We have partnered with the organisation Klimate, who specializes in carbon removal services, to invest in two projects to reduce our operational footprint.
Planting trees and investing in sustainable projects are not the whole solution, but they help us reduce our operational footprint. Today, Fertio offset over 70% of our operational CO₂ emissions; by 2026, we are committed to offsetting 100%.
We are committed to running a responsible, ethical and compliant business. So naturally, we want to promote good business conduct when dealing with our customers, donors and business partners.
We encourage our employees and partners to raise their concerns about irregularities or wrongdoing and in 2020, we implemented a Code of Conduct & Business Ethics. The code of conduct is a mandatory read for all employees and partners.
To further support this, we have a whistle-blower policy and use our Quality Management System to train our employees on all relevant compliance topics.
